i wouldn't trust them to put together a two hotdog picnic at this point! fact is we no longer know WHO we can trust in government - that's why we need a new start.

don, i hope you know i was being sarcastic? every time we let one of these scalawags get away with a thing, we'll end up back to square one in our fight. he needs to take himself out of the political arena and mend his family.

Lower the bar? Hell no! Humans make mistakes. You admit them, make good and move on. But lower the bar? The left has lowered the bar to a level where you need to step across the gaping chasm that exists, forget about seeing the bar. There isn't a cure for people making mistakes. Well death is a cure but it's kind of final. We need not to lower the bar but to make it clear that the first hint of anything being out of order will get you placed back in your community as a former elected official. Part of the problem is the sheer lethargy of the WE THE PEOPLE. We've become complacent and as long as the scandal doesn't affect our bottom line or our lives we tend to ignore it. It's time to get up off the couch and march enmass to the ballot box and make them listen. Politicians will listen if you threaten them with removal. We do have the power. We just need to excercise it more often, starting local and working our way up the food chain. They work for us.

I understand in the Republican Party we look down at acts like this. And believe me, I still find it wrong. But what I liked about what I saw was that he stood up there alone. He didn't have his wife behind him holding his hand, standing by her man. He was uo there by himself taking the full blame. He didn't lie to the public. He said straight forward what he did. That's the type of man that should be governor of a state. Not putting the blame of his actions on somebody else. Peopkle say , well Clinton did the same thing. No he didn't. Clinton lied numerous times about not sleeping around and infact we know it was true. So you can't compare the two. Clinton lied. Sanford didn't lie.

I have a home in SC and I liked his stand on the stimulas package. It was a principled stand against an out of control government. People think it was free money they couldnt be more wrong. Then when the attached strings get pulled they find out they have been conned and lost more Liberty. What happened in the bedroom is between him and his family to resolve.

we must demand transparency from those with an (R) after their name, whether they be from our state or another. conservatives have turned a blind eye to these things for far too long.

If you're not from South Carolina, why would you care about this story? How many people outside of that state have ever even heard of this guy, and why should any of us care about his affair? I keep hearing that he was a potential 2012 Presidential candidate, but I think he has all the charisma of a toad. Does anyone think this dude had a real shot at becoming President prior to this story breaking? So some back-bencher politician cheated on his wife... big whoop! This is really national news?
