Do not even begin to think that our fight is over.

Anyone who is following the "wires" over the last couple days has seen the White House version of "compromise" in their ever so reluctantly deciding that maybe the Public Option can be left off the table.

IT'S STILL A PIECE OF GARBAGE BILL. If you want to continue to have affordable Health Insurance in Virginia, don't think for a second that this is over.

ALL the other aspects of the bill, the mandates, guaranteed issue and preexisting conditions requirements, the COMPLETE overwrite of State regulations over Health Insurance...is still in the bill.

All the features of health insurance regulation which will MAKE insurance unaffordable are STILL in the bill. All the provisions which will force small businesses to provide coverage or pay a penalty are STILL in the bill. If you want to see the results of this sort of regulation, look no further than New York. The most unaffordable insurance in the United States. And that's what they want to do nationally...PLUS SOME.

This bill represents the DHHS and DOL COMPLETELY TAKING OVER the health insurance industry (think TARP but worse). They will not only have unprecedented regulatory powers over insurance companies, but they will have access to financial records of companies who are self-insuring. They will determine what constitutes "qualified" insurance and what doesn't.

States (like Virginia) will no longer have any ability to manage health care access like they have been. Where these rules are managed well (like in Virginia) insurance is affordable and accessible even for those who do not meet underwriting guidelines.

This bill will make that impossible...and every state in the union will have an insurance system like New York.
